For those who aren’t aware, this week is the Noise Pop Festival here in the Bay Area.

Somewhat like SXSW and CMJ, Noise Pop is a festival that takes place all over San Francisco (and Oakland, this year) featuring the best in new bands, and a few big names. This year’s festival features Yoko Ono, Deerhoof, Magnetic Fields, !!!, the Dodos and John Vanderslice, among others, paired with a slew of up-and-coming Bay Area bands.

What does this have to do with a company like ours? Firstly, as huge Bay music fans, we’re always happy to see Noise Pop bring some of indie music’s best-and-brightest to SF clubs with our favorite locals.

Additionally, awesome local videographers Yours Truly are filming the whole thing, and from what we’ve seen so far, they’re going to put together some fabulous footage of this year’s festival. Based here in the city, the video blog has already shot some amazing artists, like NY’s Holly Miranda, shown below.

Check their blog — you’ll find tracks from the Morning Benders, Wavves and Best Coast — and if you see ambitious young men with cameras at this year’s Noise Pop, buy them a drink, won’t you?

We found a three-part musical odyssey on good ol’ YouTube today.  Luckily, it’s Steve Winwood-free, and it was commissioned by car dealership owner Cecil Myers.

His voice is tuneless, yet somehow totally endearing in its flatness, like Lou Reed, except Cecil’s selling you Mitsubishis at a reasonable price.

The first installment is a relatively cutesy uke track, complete with a lady on a boat.

If you think you had Cecil pegged, THINK AGAIN.  Homeboy then proceeds to bring it down home and down with the homies, as it were:

As for the rap, it threatens the “Wet Pets” rap previously posted on our blog as the most innovative fusion of rap music and local basic cable television commercials.

I don’t know if this was a pitch for Cecil to “reach the kids” from a local video company, or music is just in his heart, albeit music that’s more or less never in tune.

Day one of the festival! We run! We run to the Seattle Art Museum, and look at the rooms, halls, and auditoriums. We run to Neumos, and look at Neumos. We run to The Chapel Bar, cause we’re gonna be back there. We run to the camera rental house Paul works at (Keoner) and drop off keys. We run to another camera rental house. We run to CostCo… We don’t recommend running to CostCo due to construction. You may never make it back… seriously.

…We run back to The Chapel Bar. It’s an old mausoleum that’s been converted to a bar. We didn’t get to drink anything in it, but we did appreciate the creepy/awesome factor that it exuded. We were just here for badges. The Chapel Bar, however, is across the street from one of AJ’s favorite coffee houses in Seattle, Bauhaus! Don’t attempt crossing the street. We found skeletons from the 60s next to the crosswalk light. They were heading to a Jimi Hendrix concert, but just never got the “OK to walk” sign.

Ah… the festival. The festival is a many splendored thing. Making a video shoot for a festival takes lots of finessing. This is what good finessing looks like:

photoOverall, the festival is a lot of fun. There’s a lot to see here that exceeds the IMG_0986_2expectations of an electronic music festival. There are lots of cool toys with sliders/nobs/
touchy screens. Lot’s of projectors spraying fantastic video collages. Lots of people dancing in the SAM lobby. Lots of decorative statues looking on in disappointment because they can’t dance. Lots of people hanging out in the kids play areas because they’re the kids now! Lots of exploding cars falling from the ceiling. One of them almost fell on Juan!

DSC04208Over all, we are running around a lot to capture that “perfect moment.” We got to interview Mad Professor, who is one of the coolest, most down to earth people we’ve met in a while, and we got to see some pretty awesome audio/visual performances. They sometimes look like this one to the left. We’ll get back to you tomorrow to fill you in on more of the excitement! If you’re really lucky, we might just bring you back a dubstep, glich, or loop!

Until then! – AJ
