Steve Jobs making your netbook look as fresh as Betamax:

The iPad is perhaps the smallest, sleekest thing we’ve seen since the last time Steve Jobs dropped science in his turtleneck with the iPhone. Maybe we’re overexaggerating that the netbook is on its way out, but it certainly points towards some exciting new trends in personal computing, including constant wireless and home media access as top priorities. It’s interesting to see the consistency in values between the iPad’s selling points and those of the Betmax — hands-on control and a move towards prioritizing homemade media with commercial programming. The emphasis on the “magical” in both products is interesting, and somewhat telling of tech marketing’s desire to present the “revolutionary” over and over again.

Unrelated to the Betamax joke, how creepy is this commercial? The final shot of “Grandma” looking into the camera is just long enough to give us the willies, and something about the child voiceover is a little too “Shining” for our taste.

Amidst intense anticipation for Apple’s tablet device — anticipation fueled by rumor, hype and intense fanboy devotion, mind you — we feel it’s appropriate to re-post something from the folks at the Onion:

Apple Introduces Revolutionary New Laptop With No Keyboard

Happy wild speculation to the rest of our online friends.

Yet another NY Apple Store mostly made of glass, after the smashing success of Apple’s 5th Avenue glass cube, which is the highest sales-per-square-foot outlet on the shopping drag ($35,000 per square foot!!!).

The new outlet is designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, and if we say so, the new location is beautiful, sleek and impressive. As Apple tends to work, the design is in line with their current product design, while pushing the boundaries of customer interaction and the scope of Apple’s product aesthetics. Follow the news link, and the square footage allotment focuses on spacious first impressions, while devoting less space to customer maintenance and laptop purchases, whereas the upper level focuses on the “wow” products and handheld gadgetry. Perhaps the most dynamic brand, period, Apple has an impressive way of evolving their style, instead of revolutionizing it.

The new location opens this Saturday, November 14th, and even if you’ve already whored yourself out to Apple with your phone, MP3 player, computer, speakers and soul, by the looks of it, it’s worth visiting to check out the space.
